4WD, Photographic Safaris & Private Tours
New Zealand Safaris operates 4WD and photographic safaris with modern off-road vehicles — half, full or multi-day tours all over the Mackenzie, Canterbury and Otago area. Most of the properties are privately owned, iconic high-country stations. We spend a lot of time on these properties during the hunting season, which gives us deep knowledge of the area, the wild animals, farming operations and access onto private land. Jim and his team can set up a spotting scope and binoculars to glass the stag and tahr that grace these mountains.
Our tours encompass everything from Lord of the Rings locations to historic old cabins, exploring around Tekapo, Fairlie, Mount Cook and the glaciers, Lake Pukaki, Lake Tekapo, Omarama, Twizel and many other world-famous back-country locations. During the winter months we can also provide snow-ski tours, fully catered from All Seasons Lodge. We use true off-road vehicles built to handle the terrain, each holding up to 4 passengers so your time with your guide is very personal — and for those who want to go next level, our Can-Am side-by-side can access areas a traditional 4×4 just can’t reach.

Mackenzie High Country 4WD Safari
A 5-hour adventure through a real alpine mountain station — lake and glacier scenery, sightings of red deer, fallow deer and tahr, a nature walk to mountain-top viewpoints, and exclusive high-country dining. Binoculars provided.

Whether you’re looking to experience the famous glacier hikes at Aoraki/Mount Cook, relax in natural hot pools, explore the coast, browse local shops and cafés, or discover the many attractions in between, we can tailor the day around you.
